Kiev 4B + Jupiter-8M 50mm f/2
Kiev 4B (SN: 7018901) + Jupiter-8M 50mm f/2 (SN: 7026072)
A Soviet rangefinder camera with a sharp Zeiss-derived lens.
The Kiev 4B is a 35mm rangefinder camera built in the Arsenal Factory in Kyiv, Ukraine (former USSR), modeled after the pre-war Zeiss Contax II. It features a quiet metal focal plane shutter, a coupled rangefinder with a bright combined viewfinder, and full mechanical operation with no need for batteries.
This version, the 4B, removes the selenium light meter found on the Kiev 4A, making it more reliable over time. It’s paired here with the Jupiter-8M 50mm f/2 lens (SN: 7026072), a Soviet copy of the Zeiss Sonnar — prized for its soft rendering, classic bokeh, and excellent low-light performance. The Jupiter-8M has click-stops and is mounted via the Contax RF bayonet system.
