The Laowa Aurogon FF 10-50x NA0.5 Supermicro APO for Sony FE introduces a new level of competition in the field of macro photography. It addresses the major shortcomings often encountered while using a normal microscope combined with a camera-adapter, including compromised image quality, insufficient lighting, and minimal working distance.
Designed specifically for full-frame cameras, the Laowa Aurogon lens offers exceptional image quality and boasts a great working distance due to its special design and apochromatic correction. This innovative concept encompasses four different tube lenses that connect directly to the camera and a front lens placed onto the tube. With the ability to offer magnifications of 10x, 20x, 35x, and 50x, the tube lenses vary in length from 112mm to 253mm and weigh between 370g to 465g. The front lens features a 167mm length, 50mm diameter and weighs 447g.
The Laowa Aurogon lens stands apart with its use of 'numerical aperture' (NA), a term often used to describe the 'light gathering power of a lens' in microscope optics. A higher numerical aperture generally translates to the lens's ability to reveal finer details. Laowa's new Supermicro APO lens has NA values (equivalent to the aperture value of a conventional lens) ranging from 0.15 to 0.5, adjustable in 8 steps on the front lens.
