Shimoda Core Unit - DSLR - XL40 RST (520-454)
Shimoda Core Unit DSLR RST XL40
The Shimoda RST XL40 Core Unit is built for photographers who need fast access, smart organization, and maximum space inside their Action X backpack. With rear, side, and top entry points, it lets you reach your gear from the most practical angle for the momentâwhether you want full access to your kit, quick camera retrieval, or easy handling of long telephoto lenses from above.
Built for large gear and super-telephoto lenses
Designed to fill the main compartment of the Shimoda Action X40, this Core Unit offers generous depth for demanding setups. It can accommodate lenses up to 50 cm long, including options like the Sony, Canon, or Nikon 600mm f/4.0, Sony 200-600mm and 400-800mm, Nikon 180-600mm, Canon 200-800mm, Fuji 150-600mm, and OM 150-600mm. Many of these lenses can even remain attached to a camera body while stored.
Although it is made for the Action X40, it also fits the Action X50. Please note that RST Core Units are not compatible with Shimoda Explore backpacks.
Flexible access for real-world shooting
The RST design integrates smoothly with the side access of the Action X40, while the top opening works well with the roll-top layout for reaching your camera or lens without fully opening the pack. Standard rear access is also available, giving you a complete and adaptable way to manage your equipment in the field.
DSLR depth for efficient packing
This DSLR-depth Core Unit is ideal for mirrorless and DSLR cameras with grips up to 15.5 cm high. Its deeper layout helps you pack more efficiently, allowing lenses such as a 16-35mm f/2.8, 24-70mm f/2.8, or 24-105mm f/4.0 to stand upright and take up less space.
Strong protection with a lightweight feel
The internal walls and dividers are made from EVA, offering stronger protection than the PE foam commonly found in many camera bags. This material allows Shimoda to maintain a slimmer profile without sacrificing safeguarding performance, so more of your bag stays available for gear.
Storage and transport bag included
The included cover helps keep the padded Core Unit protected from dust when stored at home. It can also be used as an extra packing pouch for clothing or other items, making it useful both for travel and storage.
